To make a long story short – I hate synopses!

Standard

When I was querying for an agent last year, I researched how to write a synopsis.  I visited websites, attended seminars, asked around conferences until finally, I thought I had a decent handle on the subject: one page, single-spaced, full-cap character names at first mention, bada-bing, bada-boom, wrote a synopsis, done.

Now my manuscript is ready to present to publishers (a nail-biting experience all in itself) and I need to write a synopsis for the second book in the series.  No problem.  I figured out the ends and outs of this last year.  Right?

WRONG!!

THIS synopsis is a whole new ball of wax.  Five to seven pages double spaced instead of the just one page single spaced that I become so familiar with last year.  Now, once again, I have bitten my nails to the nub, pulled out clumps of hair in frustration, and snapped at my kids for breathing too loudly.  Why is it that writing a couple page summary seems so much harder than writing the 300+ page manuscript???
